While the father of the deceased TET-qualified teacher of a school in Dhubri took possession of her body, the teacher’s mother has sought justice for her.
Talking to Northeast Now on Sunday, Mayarani Gupta, the mother of the deceased headmistress of 1034 Bherbheri Lower Primary School under Bilasipara Education Block of Dhubri district, said, “Narendra Modi-led government has totally failed to provide adequate security to women in the male dominated society.”
The TET-qualified teacher committed suicide on Thursday night after one Sahalam Ahmed (who has been identified as the prime accused) made some of her objectionable photographs viral on different social media platforms.

Demanding justice for her elder daughter, Mayarani Gupta said, “The government must revive the recruitment policy and appoint the female teachers at their respective home district so that no other female teachers are forced to end their lives.”
The teacher hailed from Tinsukia.
In the meantime, Dhubri police have arrested Sahalam Ahmed for allegedly abetting the suicide of the deceased headmistress and sent him to the jail.
A case bearing No 86/2019 under section 306 of IPC has been registered at Bilasipara police station under Dhubri district and further investigation into the matter is underway.
Surprisingly, when the deceased’s mother Mayarani Gupta was waiting at Bilasipara town for her son to come from Dehradun in Uttrakhand, her father Shiv Prasad Gupta after arriving at Dhubri hospital on Saturday late evening took over the possession of the deceased’s body.
He returned to his home district – Tinsukia – along with the deceased’s body without informing his wife Mayarani Gupta who was staying at a lodge in Bilasipara town since Saturday morning.
On the other hand, the deceased teacher’s mother alleged before the media persons on Sunday morning at Bilasipara town that her daughter had applied for transfer to Tinsukia, her home district but the department concerned did not pay any attention into the matter.
While contacted, Manoj Kr Phukan, the block elementary education officer of Bilasipara, said she had never applied for transfer.
