Cyclonic storm with heavy rainfall wrecked havoc in several areas in Kokrajhar district especially on the northern side in the wee hours on Monday.

Two persons were injured as the storm hit South Athiabari under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district.

“The storm in the wee hours on Monday caused extensive damages in several areas in northern part of the district in areas like Patgaon, Dotma, Padmabil, Aflagaon, Putimari and Belguri. The storm damaged houses, crops and other property worth lakhs,” said sources.

Several trees were uprooted blocking roads in various places. Several government establishments were also hit by the storm.

According to information, tin roofs of some houses were blown away, electricity poles and trees were uprooted in several places due to cyclonic storm.

“At South Athiabari under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district two persons were injured when their dwelling house collapsed due to the cyclonic storm. The injured persons were immediately taken to the RNB Civil Hospital,” sources informed.

The injured persons have been identified as 45-year-old Meru Kisku and 50-year-old Supol Hasda.

Reports of huge damages have been reported from several places in the district.

BTC executive member Jatindra Wary visited some of the affect areas and assesses d the situation.

He appealed to the government for provide compensation to the people affected in the cyclonic storm.
