The Darrang district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has expressed their resentment over the failure of the Central Government to check the unprecedented hike in petrol and diesel prices.

The Darrang district AJYCP unit demanded that necessary measures including cut in excise duty be taken by the Prime Minister to bring down the fuel prices with immediate effect.

Nabajit Sarma and Dignata Kr Deka, the president and the general secretary of the Darrang district AJYCP respectively in presence of their central committee advisor Bhabesh Kakati and executive member Pankaj Deka on Saturday met the Deputy Commissioner, Darrang in his office and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister in this regard.

In the memorandum, the youth-student body pointed out how the excessive rise in the fuel prices has resulted in the rise of transportation cost leading to the rise in prices of the essential commodities thereby adversely affecting the common public of the district and the State as well .

In the memorandum, the youth-student body also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government for betraying the public as their pre-poll promises on reduction of prices of fuels and other essential goods turned out to be false.

It may be mentioned that the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged protest against the steep hike in fuel prices across Assam on Wednesday.

The All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) activists burned effigy of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Ujan Bazar in the city as part of the protest.

The protesters shouted slogans like ‘Petroleum Minister Hai-Hai’, ‘Modi Government Go Back’, etc.

The AASU condemned the BJP-led Central government for not being able to control hike in prices of petroleum and diesel along with other essential commodities.

Meanwhile, a large number of Congress activists led by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora along with many senior Congress leaders took out a bicycle rally from Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Tuesday in protest against the steep hike in petrol and diesel.

The Congress activists also expressed their anguish at the uncontrolled price rise in essential commodities.
