Condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his statement on former PM Rajiv Gandhi, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged protest in front of Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati on Monday.
While addressing an election rally at Prapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, 40 km away from Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary constituency Amethi, Modi on Sunday said that Rajiv Gandhi was called by his courtiers as ‘Mr Clean’ but he had died as ‘Bhrasthtachari No. 1’ (Corrupt No. 1).
Modi attacked Rajiv Gandhi while referring to the issue of Bofors scam.
Slamming the PM for his comment on Rajiv Gandhi, veteran Congress leader and former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said “Modi doesn’t deserve to be a PM of a nation like India”.
Gogoi tweeted: “Modi’s ‘Corrupt No 1’ remark on Rajiv Gandhi, a martyr who sacrificed his life for country’s unity & integrity at the hands of terrorists exposes his meanness reflecting his frustration as he realises of losing the PMO & he doesn’t deserve to be a PM of a great nation like India.”
Condemning Modi for his comment, APCC general secretary Ranjan Bora said, “We don’t think that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has any contribution towards the nation. He suddenly became the PM. After becoming the PM, he has been ruling the country with false promises and has cheated the public. They have understood that they would no longer rain in power and such statements are reflection of that depression.”
Bora also said late Rajiv Gandhi was not only a “Prime Minister but was also a ‘Bharat Ratna’ who had sacrificed his life for the nation”.
“Late PM Rajiv Gandhi’s mother, former PM Indira Gandhi also had sacrificed her life for the nation,” added Bora.
