Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal paying tribute to Jayanta Chakraborty. Northeast Now

A social worker and husband of Guwahati MP and former Union Minister Bijoya Chakraborty, Jiten Chakraborty, breathed his last here on Monday in the afternoon.

At the time of his demise, he was 82 years old.

As per information, Chakraborty was undergoing treatment for cardiac ailment in GNRC hospital at Dispur here.

It may be mentioned that Chakraborty, who started his career as a teacher at Mangaldai Higher Secondary School in Darrang district, later served as an education officer at SCERT. He was also known as an essayist.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also mourned the demise of Chakraborty. He also paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of Jiten Chakraborty at the Nabagraha cremation ground.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Sonowal said that Jiten Chakraborty, who was associated with a number of social organizations during his life, contributed a lot to the society.

Stating that Chakraborty’s demise is an irreparable loss for the society, Sonowal also expressed his condolence to the aggrieved family members of Chakraborty.

The Chief Minister also said, Jayanta Chakraborty, the husband of MP Bijoya Chakraborty and father of Hajo MLA Suman Haripriya, also had extended support towards the social activities of his wife and daughter.
