“Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardev produced his invaluable creations like kirtan, dasam, borgeet, bhaona, bhatima, ankia nat etc at this very place and made stellar contribution to the development of Assamese culture and literature. We must strive to preserve the valuable properties like sasipat (manuscript) scriptures and other resources of the saint with modern scientific technologies to inspire the young generation with his ideals for strengthening greater Assamese identity,” Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Tuesday while speaking at a discussion programme on the need for preservation of satra resources while visiting the Sri Sri Sankardev Than at Patbausi Satra at Barpeta.

Chief Minister Sonowal also announced Rs 50 lakh for setting up a modern museum for preservation of sasipat scriptures and other resources of the satra.

Saying that the State Government is embarking on a journey to make Assam one of the best states in the country following the ideals of Shankardev, Sonowal stated that the Government is committed to safeguard the interest of all sections of the society and no one should doubt its intentions.

The State Government is working towards freeing the satra lands from encroachment and preserve the staras as seats of culture and 130 bighas of land of Batadrawa Satra have already been freed from encroachment till now, the Chief Minister said.
