Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday directed the Revenue Department to take immediate steps to appoint 2000 gaon burhas (village heads).

In Wednesday’s meeting, the Deputy Commissioners were given the right to decide the matter of allotment of land for setting up government institutes announced in the Budget in their respective districts.

The Chief Minister also directed the Commissioner and Secretary of Revenue Department to take action against three Additional Deputy Commissioners of Kamrup Metro district in charge of Revenue Department.

It is to be mentioned that the process of computerization of land records and making them available online has already been completed in 25 districts and rest of the districts are nearing completion of the same.

Modern records rooms have been installed at 52 revenue circle offices till now and other offices are also in the process of installing the rooms where old documents, land records would be stored in digitised format.

Out of the 25 districts, Kamrup Metro district has not been able to fix place for modern record room which has delayed the process.

On the other hand, the district has also not been able to implement the online system of issuing NOC for transferring immovable property.

The Chief Minister directed the Commissioner and Secretary of Revenue Department to take action against the three ADCs in charge of Revenue Department in Kamrup Metro district for not starting the process in spite of having all required infrastructure in place.

Chairing a review meeting of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department at his conference room at Janata Bhawan, the Chief Minister took stock of the status of implementation of various programmes by the Department.

In the meeting, the decision to increase the annual grant given to those religious institutions whose lands have been requisitioned by the government to one lakh rupees was taken.

Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management Department Pallab Lochan Das, Legal Adviser to the Chief Minister Shantanu Bharali, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohia, Commissioner and Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management Department Rajesh Prasad were present in the meeting among others.
