Assam police cyberdome project

Cyberspace has become a new breeding ground for criminal activities, with Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India campaign aiming to bring maximum number of people under its fold.

Keeping this in mind, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his budget speech spoke about the Cyberdome project, which will help deal with cyber security.

This project by the Assam Police aims to enhance digital forensics, big data analysis and an overhaul of the digital infrastructure so that cyberspace can be used for maximum benefit, without worry of criminal activities.

For this purpose, the Assam Police has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with with National Technical Research Organization (NTRO), which is a premier central technical intelligence gathering agency, to start a state-of- the-art social media lab and Training facility.

The best part of the state-of-the-art lab is that it will not only serve the Assam police personnel but also police personnel from other states of the Northeast region.

Assam will be the second state after Haryana to implement such an ambitious plan.

Digitisation is not only changing our lives, but also creating new opportunities for criminals. If necessary measures are not taken, the chance of falling prey to a hacker is quite high.
