North Lakhimpur: A person went missing on Thursday while crossing the Champora River in Ghilamara in Lakhimpur district.

The incident took place in Meleki-Ezaroni village under Ghilamara Police Station on Thursday afternoon when three persons crossed the river to bring mangoes from the other side.

While crossing the shallow river near the No. 2 sluice gate, one of them suddenly sank and was swept away.

The victim has been identified as Chitra Gohain (37) alias Kataki.

A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team from Dhakuakhana conducted search operations on the river till it was dark.

However, no trace of the drowned person was found.

According to Ghilamara Police, the search operation would resume on the following day.
