The Capital Police in collaboration with Hamara Arunachal Abhiyan (HAA) has launched a Roadside Pathsala (school) campaign to create awareness on traffic rules/regulation, cost of road accidents and public behavior towards traffic signs and symbols.
The awareness campaign was launched in a simple inaugural ceremony in the presence of IGP (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa, Itanagar Capital Region DC Komkar Dulom and a team of police officers and personnel led by Capital SP Jimmy Chiram recently.
During the Roadside Pathshala, the members of the public including traffic violators are imparted awareness on road safety through makeshift pathsalas at the roadside.
The participants are also provided with pamphlets mentioning various violations/offences under Motor Vehicle Act and their penalties, safety measures, traffic signs and symbols.
The violators are asked to take a pledge to abide by the traffic rules and regulation and then allowed to go without being challaned.
SP Chiram said the exercise was an attempt to make the public aware of various traffic rules and regulations.
He further informed that the campaign will continue till a perceptible change in behavior of public towards traffic rules/regulation and traffic safety is observed.
The SP also informed that on day one itself the pathsala witnessed a total of 300 participants near Todo Hotel Itanagar.
“On day two i.e on 16th March, the pathsala was held near Hibro Motors Itanagar wherein around 300 participants participated. Day 3rd and 4th witnessed participation of around 200 participants on each day,” he said.
Along with the awareness campaign, various traffic rules and regulations including MV Act is also being enforced, informed the SP.
He further appealed to the denizens of the Capital Region to cooperate and to abide by the traffic rules and regulation for the safety of everyone.
