One Assam Rifles jawan was martyred while another sustained bullet injury in an ambush by suspected NSCN(IM) cadres near Sanliam village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

Sources said the incident took place around 6.30 am when a convoy of 6 Assam Rifles came under heavy fire.

“In the heavy gunfight, one Assam Rifles jawan was martyred while another sustained bullet injury,” said sources.

However, Assam Rifles is yet to reveal the identity of the martyred soldier.

This development comes days after the Assam Rifles neutralised a hardcore National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K-YA) cadre in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on October 17.

Moreover, the militants are trying hard to penetrate into India through the Indo-Myanmar route.

“Every year, during winter, they try to enter India because of severe cold in Myanmar jungle and for the shortage of rations,” sources said.

Tirap is one of the disturbed areas in Arunachal Pradesh as the militants allegedly force the locals to support them in hiding.
