Guwahati: Vijaynagar, the easternmost circle of Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district bordering Myanmar is set to receive a full-fledged electricity supply by the end of the 2024-2025 financial year.

Currently, a small 2×25 KW micro-hydropower plant in Preet Nagar provides uninterrupted power to several Gorkha villages – Twohut, Chizudi, Topihill, Buddha Mandir, and Mazgaon.

This initiative falls under the Golden Jubilee Border Villages Illumination Programme.

However, some Gorkha villages like Ramnagar, Daragaon, Phaparbari, and Gehrigaon still lack electricity access.

To address this, the hydropower department has undertaken another project.

A new 2×250 KW hydropower plant is being built in Shirit Nagar to serve these remaining villages and the Yobin-inhabited villages under Gandhigram.

Construction is progressing rapidly with machinery, equipment and sufficient workforce deployed at the site, reports stated

The project involves constructing a weir intake, feeder channel, desilting tank, power channel, forebay tank, and a powerhouse building.
