Foot-over-bridges in Arunachal

The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) has urged the state government to remove all foot-over-bridges erected along the national highway from Naharlagun to Itanagar.

The AAPPTF, in a representation submitted to the chief secretary on Friday, said, “The foot-over-bridges are of no use to the commuters. They are rather occupying parking and footpath spaces.”

“The bridges have more importantly become a hotspot for illegal banner advertisement and a shed for hawkers and beggars,” the federation added.

The AAPPTF further alleged that the idea of constructing the bridges was more of a self-benefit scheme of the Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) and of some money minded people who had no future plans.

“Moreover, the bridges are nothing less but a total waste of government funds,” the transport body said.

The federation also alleged that IMC did not consult any department, be it the public works or highways before executing the work.

“The bridges will also hamper the ongoing highway construction,” it added.

The AAPPTF has further appealed to all departments concerned to think of the future before executing any such plans.

“There is better and fast development if the funds meant for the same are not wasted,” the federation said.
