A three-day long district level training on self-defense for girl students got underway in Arunachal Pradesh’s Seppa on Wednesday.

The training under Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE) is being held at the Nyokum ground in Seppa.

Organized by the East Kameng District Samagra Shiksha Society in collaboration with the Women and Child Development department and East Kameng District Karate Association, the camp aims to promote and impart the art of self-defense amongst girl children.

A large number of girl students from different blocks of the district are participating in the programme.

Inaugurating the event, East Kameng deputy commissioner Gaurav Singh Rajawat spoke on the benefits and advantages of self-defense.

Terming adolescent age as the best learning period, the deputy commissioner urged the participating girl students to exploit the opportunity at its fullest.

He also exhorted them to accord top most priority to study.

Enlightening about the aims and objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Rajawat made an appeal to the people and all stakeholders to cooperate and coordinate in achieving the true goal of the mission.

In order to instill a sense of participation amongst the participants, the deputy commissioner further offered to confer cash awards on three best-performing girl students on completion of their training.

East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organization chairman Dahey Sango expressed his gratitude to the organizers for conducting the programme and exhorted the participants to make best use of the opportunity.

Terming early marriage as a blot on any society, Sangno urged the girl students to give equal importance to studies besides other co-curricular activities.

Integrated Child Development Services deputy director W Thungon also spoke on the occasion.

A demonstration of basic steps and techniques of self-defense and karate by a team of East Kameng Karate Association was the highlight of the inaugural day.

Present among others were deputy director of secondary education Duken Kato, DIET principal Kata Rangmo, Women Welfare Organization president Mone Taba, All East Kameng District Students’ Union president Chakang Yangda and host of teachers and government officials.
