Around 150 Inner Line Permit (ILP) violators were detected during the ILP checking drive carried out by the Tirap district administration and police at several strategic points of the district.
While 100 violators were detected during the first phase of the drive carried out at 19 different locations on March 18, the second phase of the drive carried out on Tuesday saw the administration and police detect 54 ILP violators.
On further investigation, it was found that most of the violators had entered the district through the Hukanjuri gate.
Those found guilty were summoned to the office of the executive magistrate, Khonsa for document verification and ILP application.
The Tirap district administration has meanwhile appealed to the locals to bring labourers from other states through proper channels.
Khonsa Town Magistrate and Circle Officer Ripi Doni said “The people who bring labourers from other states should make sure that they have proper documents and permits”.
“Outsiders entering the state without ILPs and local guardians/references are like faceless beings. It becomes difficult to trace them in case of an unfortunate event. Everyone is welcome in Arunachal but one has to make a legal entry,” Doni said.
ILP is an official travel document issued to Indian citizens who want to visit protected/restricted areas or states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram for a limited period.
The Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act of 1873 prohibits all citizens of India from entering Arunachal without a valid ILP.
