Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Ninong Ering, apprised Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resource Arjun Ram Meghwal about the present situation of Siang.

He also informed the Union Minister of the future threats posed by the mighty river of the region from Tuting to Jampani.

He also requested for dredging and construction of embankments along banks of Siang which may cost approx. Rs. 2000 crores.

The Congress MP had earlier suggested to the Centre for dredging of the Siang river to solve the recurrent flood and erosion problems in the downstream areas of Assam and Arunachal.

With Siang river in spate and flowing above danger level, Ering expressed deep concern over large-scale siltation in the riverbed and soil erosions in downstream areas from Tuting to Jampani. The river had eroded large chunks of agricultural lands. It left many natives homeless and chaos. A few people had to be airlifted from Jampani.

To bring a permanent solution to over flooding and erosion of downstream areas, Ering urged the Union Water Resources Minister to initiate preventive measures such as dredging of Siang river in parts of Assam, construction of embankments along both banks of the river till Oiramghat, and initiating dialogue with China on the release of water from the dams in Yarlung Zangpo in Tibet to solve flooding and erosion of the downstream areas.
