A new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Tezu Zonal General Hospital in Lohit district.
It was inaugurated by local Karikho Kri in the presence of Lohit deputy commissioner Prince Dhawan and SP DW Thongon and district medical officer Dr S Chai Pul.
Speaking on the occasion, Kri said the operationalization of ICU at the zonal hospital is a boon not only for the people of Lohit district but also for all the surrounding districts like Anjaw and Namsai.
“Lohit has already successfully treated the lone Covid-19 patient of the state and the setup of the ICU ward will strengthen the medical department of the district in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic,” Kri said while thanking the state government.
Medical superintendent Dr Chodim Tayang informed that the ICU ward is presently equipped with 4 beds and 1 ventilator with an oxygen concentrator, defibrillator and a CPAP machine.
He, however, said even if the ICU is installed, it would be a herculean task to make it functional in the absence of adequate and proper manpower.
Additional anaesthetist and respiratory physician are required to run the ICU properly and regularly, Dr Tayang said.
DC Dhawan thanked all the stakeholders, especially the district medical officer and medical superintendent and departments like RWD, power and PHE for completing the ICU project in record time despite facing various constraints during the lockdown period.
