Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra and chief minister Pema Khandu have extended their warm greetings on the joyous occasion of Children’s Day being celebrated on November 14 across the country.
The celebrations commemorate the birth anniversary of the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The Governor in his message earlier on Wednesday evening said every adult in the nation owes it to her or his child to provide her or him with the best facilities to grow up in a healthy and happy atmosphere.
“The Constitution of India lays down under Part IVA, Fundamental Duties, Article 51A, Sub Article (K), for every parent or guardian, to provide opportunities for education to his child or, as the case may be, ward between the age of six and 14 years,” the Governor said.
“By providing our children with good education and opportunities to harness their potential and imbibe good values, we can make every child a contributing citizen of our State and Country,” he added.
Good upbringing of our children, nurtures a better tomorrow for all, the Governor said while stating that the present national leadership envisages care for the children as a national priority.
“For our better tomorrow, let us give our children our best today,” he appealed.
Chief minister Khandu in his message said: “Bal Diwas is a day to increase awareness about the rights and education of children.”
“Jawahar Lal Nehru, popular among children as Chacha Nehru often said that children should always be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow,” he added.
Before Pandit Nehru’s death, Bal Diwas was celebrated on November 20, coinciding with Universal Children’s Day by the United Nations.
After his death in 1964, a resolution was passed in the Parliament to give him a befitting farewell and it was unanimously decided to celebrate his birthday as Bal Diwas or Children’s Day in India.
Khandu appealed elders, parents and teachers to take inspiration from the day and work in tandem to nurture, care and show the children the right path of life not only in education but also on moral values.
“We are the generation with the onerous responsibility to lead the next generation to a better world,” the chief minister observed.
“We can achieve this by taking proper care of our children and guide them today,” he added.
He expressed optimism that every school in the State will organize fun and motivational events to mark the day so that while the children get the attention they deserve, elders realize their responsibilities towards them.
