The Aalo Town People’ Welfare and Development Society (ATPWDS) has expressed its dismay over the delay in completion of the much anticipated outdoor stadium at Aalo in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district.
Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang district is around 360 km from here.
Members of the ATPWDS, led by its chairman Kento Ete, on Wednesday, visited the construction site during which they were briefed on the progress of the work by the construction agency’s (T K Engineering Consortium Pvt Ltd) field officer, officials said.
Following the briefing, the ATPWDS appealed to the agency to start the construction work in full swing from the month of September and said: “the delay is robbing the town of sports activities which is essential for the overall growth of the young generation.”
“Many of the youngsters are diverting their youthful energy towards unwanted activities. The society will not remain a mute spectator to any further delay in the construction work,” the ATPWDS cautioned.
The construction agency’s field officer disclosed that state government has placed funds to the tune of Rs 12 crore again for making a payment towards the works executed for stadiums at Tezu, Aalo and Itanagar.
“At Aalo, works worth Rs 6 crore is said to be executed and the contractor is ready to start the work even if they get payment of Rs.3-4 crore,” the field officer informed.
The greenfield located in the heart of Aalo town along with its entire infrastructure was dismantled long back for the construction of the new stadium.
Following that, very fewer sports activities have taken place and all social and other celebrations have been since shifted to the Aalo Government Higher Secondary School’s playground, officials added.
