Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra on Monday paid tributes to the armed forces on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day.
India has been observing December 7 as the Armed Forces Flag Day, also known as National Flag Day, since 1949 to honour the soldiers who valiantly guard the Country’s borders.
Addressing a function held at Raj Bhawan in Itanagar to mark the day, Mirsha said, “A notable significance of the National Flag Day is that it motivates the citizens to support the armed forces, who safeguard the integrity of the nation.”
“The National Flag Day reminds the citizens of the country that well-being of the Indian armed forces personnel is also in their hands and they share this responsibility along with the government,” he said.
The Governor, in his speech also recalled the inception of the Armed Forces Flag Day.
He said that a committee was set up by the Union Defence Ministry in 1949, with the sole intention of suggesting ways and means for providing support to the armed personnel – the Army, Navy, and the Air force.

“The committee suggested distribution and penning of small flags to citizens in order to collect funds that could help the rehabilitation of battle casualties, welfare of service personnel, their families and ex-servicemen and their families in dire straits,” Governor BD Mishra said.
He appealed to the people to contribute towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF) as a token of gratitude for the sacrifices they make.
The day also saw the Governor, first lady Neelam Mishra, chief minister Pema Khandu, chief secretary Naresh Kumar and the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan make contributions to AFFDF.
The contributions sent by deputy chief minister Chowna Mein and director-general of police RP Upadyaya who are presently out of station were also handed over the AFFDF collection team.
