The Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) on Thursday expressed concern over the delay in rectification of illegal and arbitrary appointment made to the fifth body of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW).

The APMCC questioned the silence maintained by the Pema Khandu-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government over the delay. “It is seven months that several women organisations are collectively fighting against the illegality,” the committee’s president Nabam Yakum said.

“The Government had initially accepted the shortcomings in the procedures of appointing the fifth APSCW body and assured to correct it accordingly. But it failed to do so. Such negligence clearly exposes the bias of the Government. The delay in rectification also shows how the Government is working against the interest of women. The Government is trampling the rights of women in the State by auctioning their dignity and privileges,” she said.

The APMCC said that Arunachal Pradesh was in the midst of “inefficient governance” pertaining to safety and security of women and girl child. “The State Government is making the women more vulnerable, destitute and deprived by not setting things right at APSCW,” Yakum said, demanding a stop to the illegal practices.
