The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) joined the nation in observing ‘Vishwasghat Diwas’ (Betrayal Day) across the State to mark the completion of four years of the BJP government in the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As part of the observance, the APCC organized a protest rally, from Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan to the IG Park tennis court, over the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products.

At the conclusion of the rally, Congress workers burnt the effigy of Modi.

The APCC also demanded the petrol and diesel prices be rolled back within 10 days.

Later interacting with media, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki came down heavily on the Pema Khandu Government over the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, stating that the bill would create a demographic imbalance for the indigenous tribal people of the State.

Tuki also questioned why the BJP-led Central Government is adamant on introducing the bill in the entire north-eastern region.

Tuki claimed that many of his party legislators had shifted loyalty to the BJP in the hope that the State would get a much bigger share of the developmental funds.

But, over the last years, the scenario emerged exactly the opposite. Tuki claimed.

Even banks and ATMs are running out of cash, he added.

Lambasting the NITI Aayog as ‘detrimental to the progress of states like Arunachal’, Tuki added that the erstwhile Planning Commission under the Congress regime had offered several grants from the Centre, which were ‘disbursed in a time-bound manner’.
