The Arunachal Pradesh state unit of Bhratiya Janata Party (BJP) has come under sharp criticism from the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) after a BJP legislator attended an official programme during the seven-day state mourning which was declared following the death of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) informed that BJP MLA Thanhgwang Wangham of Longding-Pumao constituency attended a public programme at Pumao circle on August 20 and inaugurated a government middle school there.

The APCC said a BJP legislator attending an official programme during the period of state mourning ‘only showed utter disrespect to late Vajpayee and the circular issued by the Union Home Ministry that there will be no official programme during the period of state mourning.’
