Eyeing 2019 Lok Sabha polls, ensuing State Assembly and panchayat elections in Arunachal Pradesh, the Arunachal State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has geared up to conduct its extended two-day State executive meeting at Pasighat in East Siang district beginning from Wednesday.

As informed by party sources, BJP’s national general secretary in charge of Northeast and Arunachal’s party in-charge Ram Madhav, State BJP president Tapir Gao, Arunachal Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein along with a number of Ministers and MLAs besides State level leaders across the State are expected to attend the two-day meeting.

The meeting will chalk out poll strategies of the saffron party for the ensuing elections, which are due in April next year.

The ruling BJP has already conducted a series of meeting in different districts with deployment of well-trained ‘Vistarak’ thereby made the rural people aware about various flagship schemes taken up by the NDA Government in the Centre. It has also conducted special membership drive to uproot Congress from the State.

It may be recalled that the Congress led by former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki swept last Assembly polls and stormed into power with absolute majority. But, after a major twist of political controversy, Tuki compelled to leave the seat to then dissident leader Kalikho Pul, who earlier was Health & Family Welfare Minister in the Tuki Cabinet.

Again after Pul’s untimely demise, young legislator Pema Khandu, son of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, captured the Chief Minister’s seat in July 2016.

Subsequently, in a major political change, 43 MLAs out of 46 Congress legislators unanimously merged with the PPA en-bloc along with current Chief Minister Pema Khandu. Founded in 1979, the PPA and the team Khandu finally shifted their loyalty towards BJP during December, 2016 and formed a stable Government in the State.
