A delegation of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) led by its general secretary Tobom Dai would leave for Guwahati to take part in the mega protest rally against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 which is being organized under the banner of the North East Students’ Organization (NESO).

NESO has announced a series of Northeast-wide agitational programmes from November 20 next to demand total withdrawal of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Foreigner (Amendment) Order 2015, Passport (Entry in to India) Notification 2015 and long term visa.

The NESO consists of the Khasi Students’ Union, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation, Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Twipra Students’ Federation, All Manipur Students’ Union, Garo Students’ Union and the AAPSU.

The organisation will hold a protest demonstration in Guwahati on November 20.

It will also launch a protest programme on November 30 in all the State capitals of seven northeastern States.

A protest rally will also be organized in New Delhi at the beginning of the Parliament session.

Member organization of NESO will meet the Ministers, MLAs and MPs of respective seven states to oppose the Bill in every possible way.

It may be mentioned that, as part of the decision of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), a member organisation of NESO, the Kamrup (Metro) unit of AASU, called on Dispur constituency MLA Atul Bora of the ruling saffron party recently and sought his support in scrapping the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The AASU decided to call the legislators and minister of the State to put pressure on them individually on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 issue.

The AASU delegation also submitted a demand letter before the ruling party MLA.
