Army chief Bipin Rawat

Chief of the Army staff General Bipin Rawat on Friday visited Dinjan military station in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

The Chief of the Army staff, who was on a two-day visit to the North-east went back to New Delhi on Friday evening after reviewing the insurgency hit states. He also visited at 9th Rajputana Rifles Army camp in Dibrugarh.

According to sources, on his arrival, the General Rawat was briefed on the prevailing security situation of the area. Major General Gajinder Singh, General officer Commanding, Dao Division was present along with other top Army officers. The Army Chief directly came from Manipur, who stayed in Manipur last night.

According to top Army sources, the Army Chief was briefed about the prevailing insurgency operation in the Tinsukia and Arunachal Pradesh.

Recently, the ULFA(I) abducted a local youth of Tinsukia district and gunned down a father and son duo which had created a panic among the people of the district.

After that joint operation was launched against the rebel group. The abducted youth was, however, released from captivity after ten days.
