The Assam government on Thursday suspended arrested Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nishamoni Deka.

Deka was arrested in connection with APSC cash-for-job scam on December 19, 2017 after she surrendered before the police in Guwahati.

The personnel department suspended the official belonging to Assam Civil Service (ACS) in an order issued on Thursday. Deka is a 2013 batch officer who was posted as the circle officer of Paschim Nalbari.

Assam government earlier suspended 23 arrested officials after they were accused of paying large sums of money to secure jobs through the examinations conducted by APSC.

Another accused APS officer Rakesh Gupta is still evading arrest. All the arrested officials are being lodged in Guwahati Central jail.

The scam surfaced after a dentist, who had applied for a job through an examination conducted by APSC, was approached by a state government employee promising her the post if she paid Rs 10 lakh.

A trap was laid and the employee, who used to act as an agent for senior APSC officials, was arrested while taking the bribe money.
