All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo and parliamentarian from Dhubri, Badaruddin Ajmal on Saturday lambasted the Sarbananda Sonowal led government in Assam for the ‘deteriorating law and order situation’ in the state and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP led government in the State has totally failed to curb the rising incidents of crimes like rapes and murder.
Ajmal also pleaded to enact a strong law in the state like Madhya Pradesh government which recently recommended handing down capital punishment for those accused of rape of girls below 12 years of age.
Notably, Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country which recently has passed the bill that asks for death penalty or minimum term of 14 years rigorous imprisonment as punishment for those convicted in rape of girls below the age of 12 years.
For gang rape of minor girls, the minimum punishment has been increased to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The bill also proposes punishment for sex on the pretext of marriage and stalking, and for second and subsequent offences, the prison term increases.
The Madhya Pradesh bill amplifies the present punishment under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code for rape and gang rape of minors.
In replying to a question regarding the rising incidents of communal violence in other parts of the country like West Bengal and Bihar, Ajmal who was in Dhubri on Saturday, said that the respective governments must deal with the situation with fists of steal in order to control the situation and also prevent the same spreading to other areas.
“On one hand, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Arab countries in order to strength the hand with Muslim counterparts while on the other, Modi followers in India are spreading hate speeches against Muslims and also attacking Muslims,” Ajmal said.
Ajmal also said that criminals should not be tagged with a particular religion or community.
It is the sole responsibility of the State Government to trace such miscreants irrespective of caste and religion and punish them equally.
Ajmal was in Dhubri to attend a meeting of district vigilance and monitoring cell of his party.
