Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has appointed actor Hiranya Das as the chairman of cultural department of the party.
APCC general secretary (administration) Sailen Bora in an order issued on May 20 asked Hiranya Das to take over the responsibility immediately and to constitute the state level committee with Congressmen of cultural background.
Hiranya Das gained popularity as actor for his various types of roles. He has done more than 20 films, TV serials, VCD. His performances in films like Joubane Amoni Kore, Bukur Majat Jwale, Hiya Diya Niya, Daag, Nayak, Junaki Maan, Koina Mur Dhunia, Bhumiputra , Koka Deautar Ghar Jawai, Adinayak, Neelakhanth impressed the movie buffs of Assamese films. He has won Chitralekha Award for his performance in the film Nilakantha.
