The A’chik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) on Monday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the recent statement of BJP chief Amit Shah wherein he had mentioned that Rs. 9000 crore was sanctioned for Agia – Mendipathar – Tura road.

The A’chik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum in a release stated that there is no such route – “Agia – Mendipathar – Tura” currently and if such a huge amount was sanctioned for the said route a complete account of the project must be produced before the public.

“At ground level a road from Agia – Medhipara – Phulbari-Tura exists and taking cognizance of the detailed project report of Agia-Medhipara-Phulbari-Tura road and Mankachar-Mahendraganj road it has been ascertained that the total amount sanctioned by North Eastern Council (NEC) against Agia-Medhipara-Phulbari-Tura road (AMPT) road is approximately Rs 100 crore and that for Mankachar-Mahendraganj (MM) road is Rs 28.674 crore”, Alex K. Sangma, director of the forum said.

The forum has raised question on accountability of such project.

“It raises serious concern over the veracity of statements made by public figures like Amit Shah. The statement itself does not synchronies with the detailed project report against the sanction of the stated amount for Agia-Medhipara-Phulbari-Tura road (AMPT) and Mankachar-Mahendraganj (MM) road”, the release alleged.

The forum also sought clarification that if such a huge amount was sanctioned, the government of Meghalaya should give account and explanation of the above mentioned amount.

The forum strongly urged Modi on accountability in public addresses and public speeches made by prominent political figures or give account and maintain transparency with respect to projects funded by central government.
