A total of 21 Indian Navy personnel tested positive for COVID-19 within naval premises in Mumbai on Saturday.

Among the 21 positive COVID-19 cases of the Indian Navy, 20 of them are sailors of INS Angre, a shore establishment at Mumbai.

The Navy said all the infected personnel are undergoing treatment at a naval hospital in Mumbai.

Most of the persons infected by the virus came in contact with a sailor who tested positive for COVID-19 on April 7.

The Indian Navy personnel who had tested positive for coronavirus reside in the same accommodation block at INS Angre.

All of their primary contacts were tested for COVID-19.

The entire in-living block was immediately put under quarantine and the INS Angre too has been put under total lockdown.

No cases of coronavirus have been reported from those onboard in the ships and submarines of the Indian Navy.

Moreover, this is the first such case of a sizeable number of military personnel being treated for COVID-19.

INS Angre is the shore-based logistics and administrative support establishment of the Western Naval Command.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India surged to 14378 on Saturday

Among the total number of COVID-19 cases reported so far, 11906 are active cases and 1991 have been cured or discharged.

The death toll due to coronavirus cases in India increased to 480 on Saturday.
