Police have arrested one Soriful Islam (18) of Rakhaldubi village in Assam’s West Goalpara on charges of abduction and murder of his neighbour and friend Imdadul Hoque (13).

Police informed that an incident of kidnapping for ransom was reported at Baguan police station on December 30 by Abul Hussain, father of the victim Imdadul Hoque. Imdadul was missing from his residence from December 29.

Abul Hussain complained that the kidnapper was demanding a ransom of 10 Lakhs for his son’s safe release. An investigation was immediately initiated by police and on January 1, Soriful Islam was apprehended.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had murdered the victim minor boy on December 29 itself after luring him to a nearby paddy field to show certain ‘specific’ film.

He also admitted that he began demanding ransom from the victim’s family after killing and dumping Imdadul’s body in the field.

Subsequently, the mobile handset and  SIM card used for making the ransom calls were also recovered by police team from the accused’s  possession.

On being led by the accused, a police team also recovered the body of the victim in the paddy fields on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, accused Soriful Islam was produced before the court and sent for ten days police remand. This has a reference to Baguan Police Station  Case no 143/18 under section 364(A) IPC.
