The bandh called by CorCom, an umbrella organisation of the insurgents groups, hit normal life in Manipur particularly in the state capital Imphal on Monday.

Alliance for socialist unity Kangleipak also separately called 12-hour total shutdown from 6 am on Monday.

The CorCom had been protesting the alleged annexation of Manipur into the Indian Union on October 15, 1949.It has also been observing October 15 as ‘National Black Day’ every year.

Business establishments in Imphal including the two main markets in the city, Thangal and Paona bazaar besides other satellite markets in and around greater Imphal, remained closed.

All forms of transports like the inter-state and district transports services suspended their services due to the total shutdown.

Educational institutes both government and private also remained closed during the general strike. Banks and other financial institutions also remained closed during the day’s general strike.

The functioning of the government offices was also severely affected. But the bandh failed to evoke response in some district headquarters.

The state authority has taken up necessary security measures in and around the state capital to prevent any unwanted incident during the shutdown.
