Well, you may not be that lucky to have an orchid named after you.

But come Sunday and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will have that honour.

Singapore decides to name an orchid after Sheikh Hasina in its famous botanical garden during the proposed visit of the Bangladesh Prime Minister this Sunday.

Hasina is scheduled have a four-day official visit to Singapore starting March 11.

Some of the highlights of the tour on invitation of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong include bilateral talks, a meeting with the Singapore president and a business meeting.

The decision to honour the Bangladesh Prime Minister by naming an orchid after the Bangladesh Prime Minister in the botanical garden of Singapore was announced on Tuesday by Singapore Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.

Notably, the botanical garden in Singapore is a world heritage site.

Sheikh Hasina is expected to ink at least six agreements with the Singapore government to further bilateral ties between the two countries.

The deals include an MoU on investment collaboration between the International Enterprise Singapore and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, MoU on public private partnership, confidential memorandum of understanding to expand the air service agreement, MoU on digital leadership, innovation and digital government transformation, MoU between FBCCI and Singapore Manufacturing Federation to strengthen business relations and MoU between MCCI and Singapore Manufacturing Federation.

The proposed visit of the Bangladesh Prime Minister is viewed as ‘politically important’ as Singapore is the chair of the Southeast Asian countries grouping ASEAN.

Sheikh Hasina is also expected to seek the cooperation of the Singapore government to find solution to the Rohingya issue.
