Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the Rohingya refugees have emerged as a big burden for the country.

Sheikh Hasina also asked Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas which are the citizens of that country.

The prime minister said this when visiting chair of UK All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Anne Main-headed UK Conservative Friends of Bangladesh (CFoB) and the delegation of UK APPG on Population, Development and Reproductive Health jointly met the Prime Minister at the latter’s official residence Ganobhaban in Dhaka.

Sheikh Hasina also said Bangladesh provided shelter to the Rohingyas on humanitarian ground.

She has extended her sincere thanks to the local people of Cox’s Bazar for enduring sufferings caused by the Rohingyas.

The visiting team appreciated Bangladesh for showing the humanitarian gesture by giving shelter to the displaced people.

The UK delegation visited the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and handed over a written report to the Prime Minister.

On the other hand Myanmar state counsellor Aung Saan Suu Kyi had said that the Rohingyas are Bangladeshis.

Meanwhile, former British Prime Minister David Cameron has recorded his disappointment with Aung Saan Suu Kyi over the persecution of Rohingya Muslims in the country, particularly over her claim that ‘they are Bangladeshis’.

Cameron recalled his 2013 meeting with Suu Kyi in his memoir, ‘For The Record’, released on Thursday.

The Myanmar leader was feted by western countries for her pro-democracy struggle but is now a pariah due to her not condemning or acting on the Rohingya issue.
