At least seven police personnel and several protesters were injured in a clash between non-teaching staffers and police at Pokhara-based Manipal Hospital on Monday, The Kathmandu Post reports.

According to SP Ashok Singh of the District Police Office, Kaski, police have arrested 20 protesters for pelting stones at police and vandalising the hospital, the report says.

The non-teaching staffers at the hospital have been staging demonstrations for the past six months demanding implementation of the agreement on salary increment, holidays and permanent status, among others.

They have been staging a sit-in stir in front of the hospital administration for the past few days.

The protesters have claimed that the police intervened in their peaceful sit-in protest on Monday, while the police have said that the agitators tried to obstruct the services of the hospital.
