Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that the coronavirus epidemic is “biggest public health emergency” of the country.

“It has the fastest transmission, widest range of infection and has been the most difficult to prevent and control,” Xi said.

He said this at a meeting in Beijing to advance the work on coordinating the prevention and control of the COVID-19 and economic and social development.

Over 2,400 people have so far died of coronavirus  in China.

President Xi stressed on unremitting efforts on the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic and coordination in advancing economic and social development, Xinhua reported.

The meeting was presided over by Premier Li Keqiang and also attended by Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng.
