Dhaka : A temple belonging to International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Meherpur, situated in Bangladesh ’s Khulna divison, has been vandalized by miscreants amid widespread violence across the country.
Moreover, idols of Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra Devi has also been burnt in the premises of the ISKCON temple in Bangladesh.
ISKCON spokesperson Yudhistir Govinda Das confirmed the incident, stating, “As per the info I have received, one of our ISKCON centers (rented) in Meherpur was burnt including with the deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra Devi.”
“ Three devotees who lived in the center somehow managed to escape & survived,” he added
With Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country, violence continues to spread like wildfire across the country.
The situation for religious minorities has grown tense after Hasina’s escape as reports indicate that houses and temples belonging to Hindus, including ISKCON and Kali temples, were targeted, forcing devotees to seek shelter.
Besides temple attacks, an Indian cultural centre in Dhaka was also vandalised by an unruly mob.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre , located in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi , which facilitates promotion of cultural exchange between India and Bangladesh, was also vandalized.
Protestors also set fire to Bangabandhu Bhaban, the personal residence of the founding father and former Bangladesh President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is also Sheikh Hasina’s father.

Protestors also looted almost everything from her residence including furniture, kitchenware, clothing and food.
The country has been reeling under protests over a quota system reserving 30 per cent of government jobs for families of Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence veterans.

Over 100 people were killed and hundreds injured as student protestors clashed with police and ruling party activists in many cities of Bangladesh, including Dhaka.
