The Bangladesh Army has appointed a woman as its first major general for the very first time.

The woman, Dr Susane Giti was presented with the rank badge of Major General by Bangladesh Army chief General Aziz Ahmed and Quarter Master General Lt General Md Shamsul Haque on Sunday.

Maj Gen Dr Susane Giti who passed MBBS  from Rajshahi Medical College in 1985, is currently the HOD of pathology department of Armed Forces Medical College.

Apart from MBBS, she also has a number of honourable degrees like MCPS, FCPS, MMAD in her belt.

Dr. Giti joined the medical post of Bangladesh Army in 1986 as a physician and a captain.

She was also the first woman to pass FCPS degree in Hematology in 1996.

She also worked in several military hospitals in the past and her husband Brigadier General (retd) Asadullah Md Hossain Saad was also an army physician, reports The Daily Star.

Her appointment came as a new path-breaking record in Bangladesh under the rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
