New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Manish Sisodia in cases registered against him in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan altogether said that the former Delhi deputy chief minister was deprived of the right to speedy trial by both the trial court and High Court.

The judges, who also noted his 17-month-long imprisonment for both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases, ordered his release on payment of Rs. 10 lakh in bail bonds.
As part of the bail conditions, Manish Sisodia must surrender his passport, report to the police station every Monday, and avoid tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.

Moreover, Sisodia has also been allowed to enter the Delhi Secretariat by the Supreme Court, which rejected an oral plea by the CBI and ED asking the AAP leader be barred from discharging official duties.
Interestingly, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was granted interim bail in May during the Lok Sabha elections, was also barred from signing files and discharging his official duties altogether.

Sisodia is the second AAP leader after Sanjay Singh to be granted bail by the Supreme Court in the excise policy case.
The AAP leader was arrested by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act on February 26 last year.
Meanwhile, the ED also arrested him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on March 9 of the same year.
