Guwahati: The campaigning for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam ends at 5 pm today, May 5. Four constituencies—Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar (ST) will go to polls in the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on May 7.

A total of 47 candidates from across the four constituencies in Assam are in the fray in the third phase of polls.

The end of the campaign also marks the commencement of a 48-hour silence period, which mandates political parties to stop election-related activities in the polling constituencies.

Because of the voting, the State Election Commission has declared a 48-hour dry day from May 5 to May 7 in the constituencies that will undergo polling.

According to a press statement, the sale of liquor has been prohibited in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar (ST) seats from 5 pm on May 5 till the end of polling on May 7.

As per the official order, all wholesale warehouses, bonded warehouses, IMFL retail ON and OFF shops, microbreweries, and country spirit shops must remain closed during this period. This move aims to maintain peace and order during the electoral process.

The counting is scheduled for June 4. In 2019, BJP won 9 out of 14 seats and Congress bagged 3 seats, while the AIUDF could win one seat in Assam.
