The members of the Tripura branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) jointly with the All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association announced to remain off for 24 hours from their normal duties in the treatment of outdoor patients at all government hospitals in Tripura on Monday.
The medical and doctors’ associations have taken the decision to show their solidarity to the protest against violence on doctors in West Bengal.
The announcement was made by Dr. Shovik Debbarma, general secretary of IMA, Tripura unit during a joint press conference at the Agartala Press Club in presence of the office-bearers of both the doctors’ organizations at Agartala.

However, Debbarma said that the doctors shall render all emergency and casualty services besides any emergency operation.
He informed that all health staff shall remain present at their workplaces wearing black badges in protest against the brutal attack in West Bengal where young doctor Paribha Mukharjee was critically injured after being attacked by a violent mob at NRS Medical College, Kolkata.
The doctors’ associations have been demanding a national law against hospital violence and as well as strict implementation of existing Medical Protecting Act at the state level.
They condemned the brutal violence at NRS Medical College and the entire medical fraternity has expressed solidarity to the seriously injured doctors and demanded for strict action.
