The Swachh Bharat Mission has become a farce in Goalpara town.

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) president Dipanka Nath has vehemently critised the stagnant condition of the Goalpara Municipality Board (GMB) leading to the unclean environment of the town.

On Monday, while talking to media persons at Goalpara town, AASU president Nath blamed the apathy of the state government towards Goalpara town and questioned over the so-called success of government campaigns like Swachh Bharat Mission, which is one of the most-hyped campaigns initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

“If the condition of the town of a state is like this, then where is municipality and where is government? This is an insult to the Prime Minister and his Swachh Bharat Mission programme. I earnestly request the Assam chief minister to intervene into the problems faced by the Goalpara Municipality Board and bring solutions to issues like pending salaries of the Safai workers and employees,” said Nath.

The Safai workers or cleaners of the GMB have continued their agitation demanding release of their twelve months’ pending salaries which has resulted in the halt of the town’s cleansing. Now, garbage are seen everywhere in the town.
