It’s World Sparrow Day today. A day to devote our thoughts to our feathered friends, the house sparrow as well as various other varieties of birds commonly found flocking in our urban neighbourhood.

But the importance of these birds and how valuable they are to our environment is sadly lost on some.

In an inhuman act of sheer mercilessness, three youths were witnessed hunting birds at Tilthoi Chowdhury village area under Panisagar police station.

Reportedly over past few days three youths were hunting birds and killing them.

When the villagers obstructed, they were threatened by the youths. However, the villagers later complained to the police station and also the forest rangers.

Following the complaint, the forest rangers and the police were arrested the youths and a lodged a case against them.

Police have also detained few weapons from them that were used for hunting.

The arrested youths are identified as  Moinul haq, 35, Rafiq uddin, 40 and abul taher, 25.
