The people of Sikkim participated in the ‘Ten Minutes to Earth’ programme during a plantation drive at their respective places on Monday.

This plantation drive programme has been conceptualized and initiated by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling where every citizen of Sikkim is to dedicate ten minutes of their time in plantation of tree for the protection of the environment.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Chamling planted a sapling on Monday at Plant Conservatory in Bulbuley, East Sikkim in a programme organized by the Department of Forests, Environment & Wildlife Management.

He expressed that this endeavour was to make Sikkim the most green and beautiful State in the nation.

Chamling stressed that students should be made more aware about the environmental policies and responsibilities towards the environment. CM directed Gangtok Mayor to transform Gangtok into a green paradise. He further directed that all the barren areas should be covered with plantations.

The plantation drive was also participated by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, HODs and officials of different departments.

Similar plantation drive was carried out by educational institutions, government departments and social organisations and individuals across the State.
