The Kaziranga National Park (KNP), which is a World heritage Site, will be partially opened for the tourists from October 12, 2018.
According to sources, though it is a usual practice to open the national park, which is one of the most sought after wildlife holiday destinations in India, for visitors on November 1 every year till April 30, it would be opened partially by the park authority on October 12, 2018.
Kaziranga National Park’s 430 square km area is sprinkled with elephant-grass meadows, swampy lagoons, and dense forests and is home to more than 2200 Indian one-horned rhinoceros, approximately 2/3rd of their total world population.
Kaziranga National Park Director RB Saikia reportedly stated that on October 12 only Kohora and Bagori ranges of the national park would be opened for the visitors.
The park would be opened partially as repair works of roads and bridges in other ranges of the national park are still going on. The park director also reportedly informed that the tourists would be able to avail facilities of elephant safari from the first day of the opening of the park.
It may be mentioned that the Kaziranga National Park authority has already launched an app named as e-niyantron (e-control) for controlling the speed of vehicles to save lives of the animals of the national park.
Several animals get killed while they crossing the highway that passes through the Kaziranga National Park. It has been hoped that the app would help in curbing death rate of animals in the park.
