Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state will soon have an open space zoo in Silchar, Cachar.

The aim of the zoo will be to protect wildlife.

This was announced by the Chief Minister after the cabinet meeting that took place in Dima Hasao’s Halflong on Wednesday.

As per the CM, the zoo will allow animals in it to live just like they do in the wild.

They will not be confined to walls or small enclosures.

The zoo is said to be built at a cost of Rs 214 crore.

The CM said visitors will have to use vehicles or most likely safari rides to move around the zoo.

The site on which the zoo has been proposed will be built in an area of almost 200 hectares and nothing related to nature would be destroyed during the setting up of the zoo.
