At a time when there have been reports that filmmaker Rima Das has not received any financial support from Bollywood in the campaign for her Assamese movie ‘Village Rockstars’ during its Oscar journey, the filmmaker has made it clear that she has “never approached anyone in Bollywood to help with funds”.
Assamese movie ‘Village Rockstars‘, directed and produced by Rima Das, which is the India’s official entry to Oscar, has been made at a total cost of around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

Rima Das on her Twitter handle on Thursday stated: “I never approached anyone in Bollywood to help with funds for Village Rockstars’ Oscar journey, purely because it’s not their obligation. India’s official entry means representing India.”
However, the filmmaker from Assam, has thanked the Assam Government for its financial support to campaign for the movie at Oscar.

The Assam Government has so far offered a total of Rs 1 crore.
On her Twitter handle she has thanked the Assam Government, the State Chief Minister and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as they have “supported with funds” and continue to help.
In an press conference on September 27, a day ahead of the release of ‘Village Rockstars’, Rima Das had sought support from the corporate and public sectors enterprises for the promotion of her award winning film ‘Village Rockstars’ speaking to reporters in Guwahati on September 27, 2018 that the team needs “at least Rs 3 crore” to campaign for the Best Foreign Language film at the Oscars.

However, she had said, “I would be happy if corporate houses come forward. But it would be difficult for me to deal with them directly. I would accept it if provided through the state government.”
Talking about the journey from Kalardia village in Chaygaon to Oscars, Das had said, “I never imagined that this low budget film would compete for Oscars. Nomination for Oscars is itself an award for me.”
The film was released in the theaters in Guwahati on September 28, 2018.
