Assamese film lovers can now look forward to being rewarded with another piece of fine film-making in the form of a new short film Protyush (Ushering a Crack of Dawn) by filmmaker Arindam Barooah.

Besides several recognitions, Protyush was awarded Special Festival Mention at the prestigious 9th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2019 which was held in Delhi on Tuesday.

An emotive tale, Protyush revolves around a woman struggling against poverty and her fight to raise her two school-going children.

Problems of the proverty stricken family aggravates when the sole bread earner of the family, her husband, meets an untimely death leaving the woman behind with two young children at her care.

When the society offers her two choices to either succumb to her miseries or employ her children as child labourers to help their poor economic condition, the woman must choose whether to take their advice or take up a bigger challenge which will go on to out rightly reject the societal norms of rural India.

Protyush is the story of the woman’s tough decision to feed her family.

The short film stars Jahnobi Gogoi, Kironmoyee Borah, Rishav Ritam Gogoi Manash Protim Chetia in the lead roles.

Jahnobi Gogoi sensibly portrays the trials and tribulations of the mother and widow the film who is the protagonist of the film while Kironmoyee Borah, Rishav Ritam Gogoi shine as the school children.

Supporting them are the rest of the cast – Anisha Dutta, Anupam Dutta, Nayan Jyoti Deka, Jyoti Dutta and Karabi Dutta whose roles add various layers to the narration of the film.

With a moving story by Rita Bhuyan Barooah and screenplay by Rita Bhuyan Barooah and Arindam Barooah, Protyush is expected to strike a chord with the audience.

The smart cinematography by Rishika Baruah, Bhaskar Jyoti Dutta and Prabhat Das and effective background score by Kukil Pratim Saikia and Gaurav Rabha will also play a significant role bringing to life the message of the film.

Protyush has been bagged Best Short Film, Best Director & Best Editor at Borluit Short Film Festival, 2019 in Jorhat and has earned a invitation screening at Cinema Utsav, 2019 at Dhemaji other than being screened at Filmgatha 2019 in Guwahati.
