Students of secondary education, Assam have brought laurels to the State in the recently concluded India International Science Festival (IISF-2018), organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Science in association with Vijnana Bharati at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan, Lucknow during the first part of October.

This was informed through an official press release issued on Tuesday.

The prime objective of the festival was to instill scientific temper among the masses and showcasing India’s contribution in the field of science and technology over the years.

Under the aegis of Department of Secondary Education, Assam, as many as 24 students along with six teachers from different districts of Assam participated in the North East Students Conclave (NESC) which was a sub event of this programme held on October 6 to 8 last.

Earlier on October 5, in a get together of all the participants in the Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam, a briefing about the whole programme was given to all by P Jidung, Director of Secondary Education, Assam.

He encouraged the participants to perform well and said that this great initiative of the Central Government will infuse a spirit of science education among the students of the region.

In the various competitions held during the festival, students from remote corners of Assam could show their expertise in the field of science and made the State proud by winning accolades.

Students also attended IISF expo, Science Film & Literature festivals, visited various CSIR labs and interacted with eminent scientists as per IISF ‘Vigyan Bhraman’ and took part in ‘Face to Face’ with many scientists.

The two day conclave was concluded with Northeast Cultural Festival by the student group among themselves. The programme was attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari and Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, and boosted the morale of the children of the north-eastern region through one-to-one interaction.

The winners at the Northeast Conclave were Jooman Kishore Lahkar of Vivekananda Bidya Niketan, Nalbari who bagged the first prize in the PowerPoint presentation.

In the same event, the consolation prize was won by Sushruta Borkotoky of Salt Brook School, Dibrugarh.

In the poster presentation, the first prize was won by two students, namely Gunjan Nath of Resonance Science Secondary School, Sonitpur and Biswajit Sharma of Dhekiajuli High School, Sonitpur respectively.

The second prize was bagged by two students, Biki Singha of Sonaram HS School, Kamrup and Ankur Gogoi of Dr Radhakrishnan School of Arts, Commerce and Science, Dibrugarh respectively.

Again the third prize was tied between Juman Das of Mitani Rewa Maheswar High School, Kamrup Metro and Ponkumoni Hazarika of Ushapur High School, Duliajan respectively.

In the cultural competition, the second prize was won by Rashmi Sonowal of Assam Vidyapith H.S School, Dibrugarh and Koustov Moni Saikia of Kuralguri HS School, Golaghat.
